HKA Director Seyran Celik elected president of greater Miami section of AACEI
23rd May 2022
HKA is excited to announce that HKA Director Seyran Celik has been elected President of the AACEI –Greater Miami Section. Seyran first became involved with the group in 2015, when some of her coworkers at the time expressed interest in reviving the existing regional chapter to fill a void in the industry. Now at 40 members and counting, Seyran aspires to continue growing and shaping the group.
As a current Board Member and past Secretary and Director of Communications and Marketing, Seyran worked with the chapter’s past president to curate and execute a technical program of live webinar sessions and coordinate network socials. She also liaised with the director of membership to create interest in the chapter through members’ companies and LinkedIn.
When asked about the value of belonging to such an organization, Seyran says, “I think, most importantly, it provides a collaborative avenue for a myriad of different perspectives in the construction industry to come together and talk about the expertise that we individually may not be exposed to in our current roles. Ultimately, it’s not just about cost engineering; we discuss all types of project controls as well as their associated risks.”
Moving forward as one of two women chapter presidents, Seyran hopes to create opportunities to execute joint sessions with a diverse group of professionals in the engineering, construction, and legal space. She says, “To find the intersection point between all three would certainly be the most fulfilling.” Seyran recounts that, in 2021, she had the pleasure of moderating a well-received panel discussion around COVID-19’s impact on the South Florida construction market. She believes the value of the conversation was that it represented the varied perspectives of experts, owners, contractors, and legal professionals.
The Greater Miami Section holds networking socials and technical sessions and collaborates with other AACEI chapters on external initiatives or events. Now that the chapter has resumed a level of normalcy with the decline in COVID-19, it looks forward to hosting more hybrid and in-person events.
The AAECI – Greater Miami Section posts all past webinars and makes announcements on the chapter’s LinkedIn page. Although you will need to request to be a member to view the content, you certainly do not need to be a member to attend the chapter’s sessions. The chapter welcomes everyone interested in contributing to its efforts.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to Seyran if you’d like to join the AACEI – Greater Miami Section or are looking to collaborate with the chapter. She has been spotlighted as an AACE Woman in Project Controls; for further reading, read the Spotlight on Seyran Celik. If you are already a member of the national chapter, we encourage you to sign up for a regional chapter. Seyran would be happy to answer any of your questions via email at seyrancelik@hka.com.
