Simon Dean McCarroll is a civil engineer with over 25 years of experience. He has been appointed as the aviation expert on numerous occasions for multiple cases globally.
Simon acts as an expert witness and expert determiner for aviation disputes with a focus on airport planning, design, and engineering. He has supported clients on disputed projects across Europe, Asia and North and South America and is accredited by the Academy of Experts.
Simon has a wealth of practical and operational knowledge across international aviation projects as both an airport client and a consultant. He has assessed the design and constructability of aviation facilities (particularly in an operational airport environment) and is widely experienced in phased terminal and runway development, and in aircraft pavement maintenance management.
Simon specialises in airport development matters, including aviation project and design management, airport and airfield engineering, airport operations, terminal simulation, AutoCAD and PathPlanner-AviPLAN. His diverse experience includes completing projects based in Antarctica, where he worked with a blue ice runway and airfield.
Simon is a past chair of the British Aviation Group (Scotland Region) and a board member and associate practising member of the Academy of Experts. He holds a master’s in airport planning and management and has delivered various lectures regarding airport planning design and engineering bringing together technical theory with practical reality. His published work ranges from airport masterplans and feasibility studies to procurement strategies and simulations.
