Dr Nigel Bish is a Chartered Physicist with more than 25 years of experience. He has been appointed as a technical expert regarding rail systems and electrical building services on numerous occasions.

Nigel has been cross-examined in arbitration and is experienced in litigation support, encompassing a span of rail systems; mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems; and power and utility issues. He has investigated damages arising from design inadequacies, material defects and poor workmanship; assisted at multi-disciplinary mediations; and acted as a technical advisor to forensic accounting and commercial damages disputes. He is experienced across various jurisdictions including Scotland, England, Ireland, Norway, Africa, Australia, and Canada.

Nigel has a background in consultancy and design management, primarily focused on rail infrastructure, but equally adept in building services ([MEP]) in industrial and commercial build. He has considerable experience as a lead consultant within the built environment of new build and retrofit projects, to heritage, multi-use, and sub-surface constructions.

Nigel is a specialist in forensic engineering and investigative disputes. He covers subject matter ranging from utility supply and traction power to infrastructure issues of electrical design, distribution, switching control, and protection.  He also has significant experience in MV cable infrastructure, investigating issues of cable and switchgear failures (specifically focusing on remediation works), and design liability issues. Nigel has written as the principal investigator and supported expert reports for electrical infrastructure claims concerning power and utilities, autonomous and critical power supplies, and MEP building services within rail, industrial and built environments.

Nigel has a doctorate in dielectric physics and is a member of the Institution of Physics and the Institute of Engineering Technology (previously the Institute of Electrical Engineers). He is an associate member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and was a steering committee member of UPEC (International Universities Power Engineering Conference). Nigel accrued much of his experience in forensic work as an academic, balancing both research and lecturing duties, with investigative commissions in degradation of dielectric materials on behalf of industrial sponsors. He has also completed the Legal Experience Training advanced professional award in expert witness evidence (APAEWE).
