Damian is exceptionally highly skilled in Cost Management. He has led cost teams and been functional head of cost, where he has been responsible for establishing and developing robust cost management frameworks, ensuring compliance and designing and implementing performance reporting, with the ultimate aim of providing increased certainty of the outturn cost for multi-billion dollar programmes. Using best practice methodologies such as Earned Value Management for the majority of his career, he is comfortable utilising performance, schedule, and risk data to inform outturn cost forecasts. Damian has also gained considerable commercial acumen working under various contract forms: lump sum, reimbursable, target cost and PSC. In particular, he has considerable NEC contract experience.
He has worked directly with many cost control software platforms, including capability uplift, and has a solid working knowledge of scheduling software.
What do you love about what you do?
I’ve worked in some great teams and undoubtedly, what I love the most is when you can develop that special team dynamic where you all have a common goal, you feed off each other’s ideas and energy and support each other to achieve that goal.
I also love seeing things get built, looking out the window at a construction site, and seeing progress each day, which is hugely motivating. I also enjoy getting to know a job in detail, getting under the bonnet to understand its scope through the schedule and cost estimates, and understanding the key risks to delivery. Learning about a complex piece of work and then being able to break it down and communicate it to others is something I’m passionate about.
